Celebrate International Rabbit Day
Celebrate International Rabbit Day this 28th September with the cheekiest rabbit in town
Did you know that our beloved Peter RabbitTM has been spreading joy for more than a century? He first hopped his way into readers' hearts in Beatrix Potter's classic 1902 storybook The Tale of Peter RabbitTM, and his tail...um, tale...has been delighting us ever since.
Meet the Mischief-Maker
Peter Rabbit isn't just any ordinary bunny. He's daring, sometimes mischievous, but always full of charm! It's no wonder that Peter loves munching on radishes from Mr. McGregor's garden even though it gets him into trouble. Guess that's what they call the vegetable version of 'sweet tooth'!
Celebrating Peter, Celebrating Rabbits
To celebrate this special day, we have put together some interesting facts about our own favourite Rabbit...Peter!
Fact 1:
Although Peter Rabbit is a timeless character now, did you know that our beloved Peter was initially sketched as part of a letter to a sick child – in 1893 by Beatrix Potter – to cheer him up?
Sketched with words of comfort and cheer, he has since brought joy to millions of hearts worldwide!
Fact 2:
Peter Rabbit’s signature blue jacket isn't just a fashion statement. When the first Peter stories were written, rabbits were thought to bring good luck, and blue was considered a lucky colour. That's why our dear, dapper Peter dons his famous coat! He looks just as stylish in every size of our ever-so-soft plush collection.
Fact 3:
Talk about popularity! The Tale of Peter Rabbit holds a Guinness World Record for being the first children's book to be printed with sound back in 1987. Quite 'ear-isistible', isn't it?
This record breaking book is perfectly captured in our Tale of Peter Rabbit Money Bank, with the original book cover artwork on display. The opening line of this famous tale features on our adorable Peter Rabbit Book Stop, ideal for keeping your Beatrix Potter collection neat and safe.
Fact 4:
The Tale of Peter Rabbit has sold more than 45 million copies worldwide in over 35 languages for more than 120 years, making our floppy-eared friend a truly global icon!
To honour his 120th anniversary in 2022, we created a special Limited Edition Figurine in his signature running pose. An excellent addition to the home of a true Peter Rabbit fan!
Let's make this International Rabbit Day a time of glee, knowledge, care, and respect, with Peter Rabbit bouncing by our side. Be sure to browse through our ever-popular Peter Rabbit collection this season!
And remember, while rabbits may be cute and cuddly, they are also sentient beings that demand our respect and care. Just as Peter nurtures the world around him in his stories, let's help ensure our real rabbits get a happy hop through life too!
Peter Rabbit is ready for International Rabbit Day. Are you?
